What Is DA Form 330 and Why Do I Need It?

The United States Army offers a variety of positions that need the soldier’s fluency in a foreign language to be hired. The Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) is used by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) to assess an individual’s ability to read and listen in a foreign language. Exams are taken once a year, usually after completing a language maintenance course, although they may also be taken every six months at the discretion of the examiner.

Service members who are fluent in one or more foreign languages may be eligible for additional pay via the Foreign Language Proficiency Bonus (FLPB), which was formerly known as the “Foreign Language Proficiency Pay” (FLPP). Bonuses vary from $100 to $500 per month, depending on the language or dialect is spoken and the demonstrated degree of competency in that language or dialect. The following are examples of actions decided by the DA Form 330:

  • Software Quality Improvement (SQI) grants are awarded and withdrawn.
  • Eligibility for the FLPB;
  • Using the command language (CLANG) or language identification code (LIC), the Commander may load information into the enlisted master file (EMF) at the top of the list.
